Corona Column Desislava Georgieva: from fear to compassion, inspiration & hope
04 juni 2020
The impact of the unpredicted Corona-crisis on my life I would define in two completely different directions. On the one hand I felt enormous pity and compassion for the suffering people all over the world. On the other hand – in spite of the fear, the measures and the focus on the crisis – I had the eyes and senses to see and feel the serenity and purity of the surrounding world, the significance of love, friendship, care and inspiration that had become more powerful.
When it comes to the impact of the crisis on my work, I’d like to start by saying that I would consider my life and my work as one and the same thing: work in the sphere of culture and art is more or less a devotion. Anyway, this emergency situation had a great impact on the international cultural activities, causing losses, cancelation of concerts and performances, partnerships and events. I am still positive and sure that we can expect an interesting summer and even more interesting autumn on the cultural stages of Varna. You can see the programme of the Varna Summer International Music Festival 2020 Light Edition on its website.
When it comes to the impact of the crisis on the city, I’d say that Varna is a city with an ancient history that has survived after a number of challenges. I think that the citizens will remember this challenge and it will make them bolder, more united and inspired by new ideas and achievements. Because the sun, the sea, the Marine garden, the port, the summer theatre, the happy children and love will be here after the Corona crisis.
